FeastByFist calculates your recommended daily portion consumption based on the personal information collected during the onboarding process, such as your target weight loss and timeframe. You will receive a personalized plan and the great thing about FeastByFist is that there is no limitation on what you can eat! All you need to do is to eat within the recommended daily portion.
The idea of FeastByFist originated from the concept of Bariatric surgery. Bariatric surgery limits the stomach capacity, so the patients eat less each meal. Patients are allowed to eat all kinds of food and still achieve weight loss effectively. We aim to achieve the same without the pain and cost of a surgery!
In order to help you visualize the portion size (because we know how confusing it can be), we use a unit system of a clenched fist, and the recommended daily portion is specified in number of fists. For example, your personalized plan may recommend you eat 12 fists a day. That means your goal is to eat less or equal to a total of 12 fists a day. You can eat many meals and any type of food as long as you keep within the recommended daily portion.
To further enable you monitor and track your portion, a patented Augmented Reality portion camera projects a portion size in 2D circle or 3D fists with various fist sizes onto your meal so you know how much you want to eat.
Our patented Augmented Reality portion camera projects either a 2D circle or a 3D fist with various fist sizes. If you want to eat more because you’re hungry, choose a bigger fist size (e.g. 3 fists). If you want to eat little because you just need a small piece of cheesecake to brighten your day, choose a small fist size (e.g. 1 fist).
Here’s a fun fact about your fist size. The circumference of our clenched fist is directly proportional to the length of our feet.
Remember the shoe size question during the onboarding? Yes, we used that information to calculate your actual fist size! If you don’t believe it, try using a paper tape or a string of dental floss to measure the length of your feet and use that length to wrap around your clenched fist. Or better yet, use Camera to project a 1-fist circle and compare to your clenched fist!
You will find a toggle button in the Camera page. Simply toggle it and you can switch between a 2D circle and a 3D fist.
After you took a picture and ate the meal, you can go back to Gallery, click on your food picture, and record how full you are, how the food tasted, and how your mood changed. This reflection process helps set your intention and expectation for your next meal. The record also gives you an opportunity to connect to how you “feel”.
Emotional eating and therefore, losing our satiety cue are very common reasons for us to overeat. By experimenting different portion sizes and gauging how you feel after you eat, your brain is building back your ability to self-monitor. In short, FeastByFist not only helps you lose weight, it also helps you sustain the weight by keeping a good habit of mindful eating.
You can add your weight or waist data by clicking on the “plus” icon at the Dashboard. We introduce the option to track waist size because waist is a better overall health indicator than weight. If you’re interested, please watch our explainer video “5 Why Waist Size Matters”.
You can find the report at the top left corner on the Dashboard.
Deciding on how much to eat without any guideline can cause over or under eating. Calorie counting and portion control are two popular tools to help people decide. FeastByFist provides you a daily portion recommendation and you can decide how much to consume for each meal based on how hungry you are and how much you have consumed for the day.
When you are at the Camera page, you will need to decide and choose the amount of fist sizes to consume manually. The thought process leading up to your final decision helps you internalize and build a habit of asking yourself “why” and “how much” before you eat. It’s a natural “pause” to allow you think instead of mindless eating. This step reduces the likelihood of overeating dramatically.
If you are looking for accuracy, feel free to use the 3D fist. If you don’t know how to change between 2D circle and 3D fist, please look up “I don’t see the 3D fist option in the Camera. How do I find it?”.
If you are looking for convenience, you may use a 2D fist. Consistency is the key here. Find what you’re comfortable with and stick with it.
Great question! Now, when our stomach is at an empty state, the size is about the same as our clenched fist. Stomach can expand quite dramatically and gets stretched and loosened if one overeats over a long period of time. Overeating or eating a significant amount of food not only causes the changes in stomach size, but it also decreases the strength of our satiety cue. That is, the more we eat, the more we WILL eat.
Limiting each meal session to only 3 fists give you enough food to feel ok but not too much to stretch your stomach beyond a reasonable size. After 20 minutes, if you still feel hungry, you may eat more; just take another picture!
You can choose to remove the extra food and only eat within 3 fists. However, if you want to eat more, you can take multiple pictures to record the meal.
Please always put your food on a horizontal surface (e.g. a table) under a good lighting condition. If you still encounter issues, please reach out to [email protected]or go to FeastByFist app and select “Feedback” in the “More” page.
We love our customers, so feel free to contact and schedule a time to meet!
